Watch Out, Bruce Wayne
Nicki Minaj intrigues me. Not necessarily because of any set skill, but as the only viable female emcee I can think of instantly you can’t help but wonder how she’ll fair if/when she actually drops an album.
She looks like she was created in a Mattel lab and speaks in an accent that sounds more inspired by the Queen of England than the Queens borough that bred her.
I can see why some people may not take a liking to her, but she’s not actually a bad rapper. She shows potential in “I Get Crazy,” a few other select tracks from her mixtape, and the remix to “5 Star Bitch” where she makes more of an impression than the baddest bitch herself.
It’s enough to want to give her a chance. That is, if you don’t happen to find her incredibly annoying. I get why some consider her something along the lines of Lil’ Wayne’s annoying little sister. I don’t get her language, the hip-hop Barbie angle she’s pushing, nor her speaking voice. Still, I want to like her. She’s all we have and at least she’s trying to be interesting. Everyone needs a gimmick anyway.
I’ve been wanting to write about her for a while now, but I was looking for something that will help sell her to both you and me.
This ain’t, though.
I had to watch this video a couple of times before I paid any attention to what she was actually talking about. I was too busy being distracted by the lower half of her body.
Pause. Or something.
What has she done to herself? I made a vague reference to rumors that she’s gotten butt injections last week, but damn ya’ll, why is she giving me Batman Returns villain body?
Does she not remind anyone else of The Penguin: The Thinner Years?
Why would you do that to yourself? She’s already gotten a reputation for having obese genitalia so why take it one step further with a botched butt? I’m going to hold out hope that her body will heal and that her debut single will set her career off. You would think a person who models themselves after hip-hop’s two biggest pinups would learn about the dangers of cosmetic operations (and being out of their minds).
P.S. Don’t ask me what a Waka Flocka is. I don’t even want to know.

I had never heard her actually spit until this video, and I, too, was distracted by her inflated ham hock situation goin’ on, but surprisingly, her freestyle was great. She actually reminded me of the lovechild of Kanyw West and Mel B. out the Spice Girls. Maybe I’ll pay her more attention now.
….Maybe not, but still.

I agree. Since there has been no viable mainstream female rapper, I want her to do well for those who love commercial rap music. NM is gorgeous and has potential but it seems as if she is trying too hard to sell her image. I know these days image is very important due to multiple forms of media, but her music plays second fiddle. There is a thin line b/w gimmicks and doing too much. When Lil’ Kim came out, her style complimented her music so her image didn’t feel forced. Nontheless, I hope she does well and will await the protege’ of L Boogie..LOL

I’ve been reading here for bout fiftylevin years & apparently it took Nicki Minaj to make me comment–I think, I may have before or I dreamed it. I don’t know about Nicki though. Like you I really really want to like her, and I definitely don’t hate her–she’s different & I like different. I think her “different” is in danger of taking over her music though–she called herself toning down her sexualized image which I think is a good call, but…I haven’t seen it happen with her. Not that being sexy is bad though. And the barbie thing is…cute but…yeah she can stop that. Anyway. Oh & in defense of her, uh, voluptuous self it looks like there’s something weird going on in the vid making it look more distorted. Maybe kinda. I’m really hoping. Please. Damnit. I really want to use wocka flocka in my everyday vocab though.

I actually fux with Nicki-she’s better than half the male roster of male rappers you hear on heavy rotation on the radio. But that don’t mean she doesnt bug the shyt outta me, but all her antics have been passed down by a generation of New York female rappers
1) The “Harajuku” barbie thing-we all know Kim wanted to be birthed by Mattel, Nicki wants to be birthed by L.A.M.B
2) She claims she’s “half-asian” just like our Chyna Dolla Inga Marschad
3) She’s tacky as shyt- she’s like Peggy Bundy meets Hot Topic,female rappers just can’t dress, at-tall!
4) Her lower body looks like a fat suit- When you see her in shorts let me know, but that has got to be padding otherwise she wouldve already sported a leotard-tis the year of the bottomless broads.
you add in her voice, and I totally understand why she is an “aquired taste”-she aint for everybody.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but everyone in this video annoyed the hell out of me. As for Nicki Minaj, different can be good if you know what you’re doing and irritating if you don’t. She’s irritating and that will never change. I don’t want to like her. She will never grow on me. And if she’s the most viable female emcee out there right now, then the game has really fell off since the days of Salt n’ Pepa, Latifah, and MC Lyte. Sad….

if she’s all we got…then it’s a sad sad day for the game…but then again she is labeled as “commercial” rap so I can understand how played out lyrical content and a been there done that visual appeal would work for her….I want to like Nicki as well….matter fact I was semi-diggin her when she first started buzzin…but this shit right here? Uhhhhh……If you want a “different” chick who is sexy and SPITS Jack Davey got that….yall might just know her as the singer for J Davey, but chick got flow ie Red Light from Jay Loves Japan…..
